A redesign is one of the highest-leverage investments a 5–50 person company can make — or one of the most expensive vanity projects, depending on whether it is driven by metrics or by a new marketing director who wants to put their stamp on something.
When a redesign is worth it
- Bounce rate above 70% on your top traffic pages.
- Mobile LCP above 4 seconds (you are bleeding mobile conversions).
- Conversion rate below 1% on commercial-intent traffic.
- Brand or positioning has shifted in the last 18 months.
- Stack is brittle — every change requires a developer ticket.
When it is NOT worth it
- Site is under 18 months old and traffic is growing.
- Internal politics, not metrics, are driving the request.
- You have not run a single A/B test on the current site.
- You cannot articulate the primary conversion goal in one sentence.
What a redesign actually costs in 2026
- 01Strategy + UX audit: $1,500–$5,000
- 02Design (8–15 templates): $4,000–$15,000
- 03Build & CMS integration: $5,000–$25,000
- 04Copy: $2,000–$10,000
- 05SEO migration & redirects: $1,500–$4,000
- 06Total realistic range: $14,000–$60,000
Pre-launch SEO migration checklist
- 01Crawl old site with Screaming Frog. Export every URL.
- 02Map old URL → new URL (301).
- 03Preserve title tags and H1s on top 50 organic landing pages.
- 04Re-implement schema markup.
- 05Submit new sitemap in Search Console day 1.
- 06Monitor 404s daily for 30 days.
Done right, a redesign should pay for itself within 6 months through higher conversion alone. If your agency cannot model that ROI for you, find another agency.
